Instructional tips:
(1) Teachers can help students construct a list showing variations in the terms for numbers
in French-speaking regions or countries (e.g., “soixante-dix” vs “septante” and “quatre-vingt- dix” vs “nonante” in Belgium, Switzerland, Rwanda, and Democratic Republic of the Congo; “quatre-vingts” vs “huitante/octante” in Belgium and Switzerland).
(2) Teachers can model the use of expressions associated with persuasion that indicate respect for the other person (e.g., “Je te promets”, “Je t’encourage”, “Je te suggère”).
