 Areas of Learning
In Grades 7 and 8, students will learn to:
– demonstrate their understanding of and apply learning skills and strategies to their own learning
– recognize their own learning preferences
– demonstrate their understanding of the importance of the school’s code of behav- iour and of acting according to that code
– explain their progress in meeting long- and short-term goals related to education plans and improving their school work
– use goal-setting
skills appropriately to revise their goals in response to changing circumstances
– apply transition knowledge and skills (e.g., identifying resources for assis- tance) to making the transition to secondary school
– use school and community resources to support their learning needs
In Grades 9 to 12, students will learn to:
– apply a variety of learning skills and strategies to a variety of situations
– demonstrate the ability to respond appropri- ately and thoughtfully to directions from teachers, administra- tors, and employers
– use goal-setting and self-management skills in a variety of situa- tions both inside and outside school
– develop their own up-to-date annual education plans
– apply transition knowl- edge and skills to mak- ing transitions and to adapting to postsec- ondary destinations (e.g., financial planning, completing applications, selecting programs)
– apply lifelong learning skills (e.g., communica- tion, research, and employability skills) to their personal educa- tion and career plans

In Grades 1 to 6, students will learn to:
– demonstrate their understanding of and use learning skills and strategies in their classroom learning
– demonstrate the ability to follow school and classroom rules and routines
– use goal-setting skills to improve their school work
– identify improvement in their work resulting from goal setting
– identify the skills required for making transitions to new situ- ations (e.g., a new school or class)
– understand and apply lifelong learning skills (e.g., communicating, organizing, researching) to all of their subjects
