  ▪ compare 2x(x – 3) and 2x2 – 5x by graphing:
   y = 2x(x – 3)
    y=2x2 –5x
            These two expressions are not equivalent because the graphs that represent them are different.
• comparing using algebraic methods: o simplify the expressions:
▪ compare (a5)(a3) to (a2)4 by expanding and simplifying:
▪ compare (a5)(a3) to (a2)4 by applying exponent laws:
These expressions are equivalent because they can be simplified to the same term.
113
    (a5)(a3) = (a ⋅ a ⋅ a ⋅ a ⋅ a)(a ⋅ a ⋅ a) = a8
      (a2)4 = (a2)(a2)(a2)(a2)
= (a ⋅ a)(a ⋅ a)(a ⋅ a)(a ⋅ a) = a8
    (a5)(a3) = a5+3 = a8
    (a2)4 = a2×4 = a8
