Introduction
The provision of special education programs and services for students
of the province is governed by the Education Act, the regulations
made under the Act, policy/program memoranda, and ministry policy documents. The legal framework provides the comprehensive procedures for the identification of exceptional students, for the placement of those students in educational settings where the special education programs and services appropriate to their needs can be delivered, and for the review of the identification of exceptional students and their placement. In addition to providing an overview of the legal framework and guiding policies for special education in Ontario, this chapter provides information about special education funding.
